2. Gilbert, AZ

Did you know that many years ago Gilbert was known as the “Hay Capital of the World”? The story of this quiet town started a century ago, when the land was actually a farming community, fueled in 1911 by the construction of the Roosevelt Dam and the Eastern and Consolidated Canals.

This quiet town is located in Maricopa County, southeast of Phoenix, and within the city’s metro area, which is ideal for anyone who wants to spend the day exploring this magical place.

Even though at first it was only considered the “Hay Capital of the World,” nowadays it’s actually one of the largest municipalities in Arizona (5th place, to be more precise), and it covers more than 60 square miles.

The weather here is absolutely fantastic, and there are quite a few things to do and see, but the best part about this quiet town is that the crime rate is extremely low here—less than half of Arizona’s regular crime rate.
