#1 Bora Bora
Let’s be honest! Who hasn’t dreamed of going to Bora Bora even when there isn’t a lot of snow around the country? After all, the idea of warmth, crystal clear water, and white sand beaches is something that we all like to dream of from time to time. When you add the fact that it is always warm here and the warm temperatures reach a high of 86 and a low of 75 during the winter months, you’ve got yourself one heck of a destination for this winter.
And the beaches aren’t the only thing worth visiting when it comes to Bora Bora. After all, they have some amazing treks and hikes in the beautiful mountains, and you can always partake in some water sports as well. There are a lot of places to visit, and you will definitely feel your batteries charging. If anything, you may find it cheaper to go in the winter months since everyone associates the beach with summer!
Some people call it the closest thing to heaven on earth, so this may give you an impression as to how high it ranks in people’s graces! And some of the most popular resorts to choose from include the Four Seasons, the Conrad Bora Bora Nui, and even the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa!
#2 Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
If the white sand beaches are not as appealing as they are to some other people, and maybe you would like to go somewhere close to the United States, why not look at our neighbors? Puerto Vallarta may be known for how everyone congregates there during spring break, but this Pacific coast town is so much more than just a place where undergrads go to the party.
During the winter months, the temperatures are amazing, with a high of around 81 degrees and a low of 63, so there will be nothing too extreme but definitely warm. And there are some amazing things you can do if you do not like to sunbathe. Every winter there are organized whale watches in Banderas Bay, as well as a lot of amazing places to visit such as the local artisan markets, quiet waterfalls, shore hikes in Yelapa Beach, and even some fun boat rides you can catch.
For us, this sounds like a wonderful relaxing vacation away from the cold at home!
#3 Okinawa, Japan
Maybe beaches are truly not your thing at all and you want to go somewhere more adventurous—a whole new country where you can visit and explore a new culture. One of our choices would be Okinawa! While Japan does experience all four seasons of the year, depending on where you are in the country, the temperatures vary drastically, and in the south, it is generally warmer than most would believe. Typical winter temperatures in Okinawa go as high as 70 degrees and as low as 57.
The best places to visit in the winter months are the southern islands of Okinawa, where you can enjoy everything the city has to offer. The mild weather makes for great bike trips around the cities and the region, and you will have an easy time renting bikes and even getting around as there are plenty of paths already set up and marked.
Other amazing things besides the cuisine and tourist attractions that you can do include the Ryukyu Lantern Festival, which is held from early December to late March each year, along with humpback whale spotting and even an early cherry blossom bloom if you go towards the end of February.
#4 Sydney, Australia
If you want a warm country but you do not want to face the hassle of going to another country that doesn’t have English as their first language (because we all know the language barrier is sometimes very hard to breach), you should maybe consider a vacation to Australia. Sydney is one of the best places you can visit, and they have some amazing weather during the winter months due to being in the southern hemisphere!
Imagine being able to explore the city for a week or two while the temperature never rises above 80 degrees and never falls below 65. You can make the most of the beaches and even pick up some swimming or surfing activities. and get to explore the city, its museums, and maybe even go to the opera! And if you want to explore more of the country, there are always day trips to the Northern Beaches and even to the Blue Mountain region!
#5 Paros, Greece
If you want to explore some of the European continent but do not want to deal with the heat that becomes a normal occurrence in the summer months, you may want to visit Greece in the winter months. Their weather is a bit older than what we had on the list so far, but it is still warm when you take into consideration that we get freezing temperatures in some parts of the U.S. during winter. In the isles of Paros, you will find temperatures between 58 and 50 degrees from December to March!
They are not as popular as other big islands in Greece, but they have a lot of amazing beaches and places to visit and explore. They have fewer tourists than other islands but still have those iconic white houses and Greek architecture that everyone loves, with a lot of hillside towns and hidden swimming caves to explore. Some of the places we recommend are the Lefkes, Marpissa, Noussa, and Parikia villages!
#6 Costa Rica
If you’re looking for somewhere much warmer to visit during the winter, Costa Rica might be one of the places you should consider. Their weather is definitely warmer than the others so far, with highs of 95 degrees (based on the average along the Pacific Coast) and a low of 72!
Whether you want to explore the jungle or stay safe on the beaches, the weather is to die for, and they have amazing nature trails all winter long. Places like the sand beaches of Nosara and Santa Teresa are not to be missed, and if you want a dose of adventure, you can always explore the green oasis of Monteverde Cloud Forest. You can go hiking, zip-lining, and even get some adrenaline on the canopy bridges.
Another definitive plus? You can meet sloths!
#7 Namibia
Namibia is one of the amazing African countries you should definitely visit. It is not as warm as Costa Rica (temperatures on the coast of Namibia and in the Namib Desert only go as high as 68 in the winter and a low of 59), but it is warm enough to make for some amazing safaris. They have had an amazing tourist boom recently, and it is more accessible than it has ever been.
There are a lot of connecting flights to get you here, and with some of the best African roads, you can easily get around even if you decide to explore on your own. There are definitely a lot of places you can visit and explore, so make sure to keep them on your radar. What makes Namibia a great contender for a winter vacation is the fact that in late spring and the summer months, we may not be able to withstand the heat!
And if you’re looking to go somewhere more local here in the United States, make sure you give these beautiful beaches a chance this winter!
