What about the cold months? Where can you go to make the most of the destination and the weather?
There are a lot of international destinations that are worthy of your attention, and much of the travel advice we see today ends up recommending the same ones over and over again. And while they are tight, you should be visiting Greece and Argentina, but why not also get some other places on your list that could be just as enjoyable, if not even more so, because they are less known?
If you are ready to discover some of the best destinations for the last six months of the year, keep reading and get ready to be charmed!
What other destinations have you found delightful and would love to see us mention? Let us know what your perfect list looks like in the comments!
July: Madagascar
If you love warm weather but do not want to deal with excessive amounts of sweating and sweltering weather, then you should give Madagascar a try in July. While it can get pretty chilly if you are inland, you can expect to have mid-temperatures in the upper 70s°F along the coast, which makes for some of the best beach vacations out there.
There are hotter spots, but not with extreme heat, but if you are lucky enough, you could be in the area where the pods of humpback whales are migrating, and the view of them is simply spectacular.
If you are interested in seeing the whales, then you should not miss the Festival des Baleines, a nine-day festival dedicated to the whales on Nosy Bohara (also known as Ile St-Marie). You will get a few days of extreme fun, with dancing and carnivals that celebrate the majestic animals.
If you are into surfing, you’ve got the right place, as the waves are to die for, and if you love trekking, then you should definitely head southeast, as you can take a walk through the Berenty Reserve and see Madagascar’s signature wild animal: the lemur.
There’s lots to do here, and you can count on a relaxing yet unforgettable vacation.
August: Edinburgh, UK
If you are an art or comedy enthusiast, you have probably already heard of Edinburgh’s most famous festival. Festival Fringe, which generally takes place between the 2nd and the 26th of August. This is where you will be able to attend shows from over 3,000 artists, comedians, and speakers with renowned names on the roster every year.
Yet, this is not the only reason you could head to the capital of Scotland, as August is a busy month and you will not be bored here, that’s for sure. Other notable events that could pique your interest include the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, which will transform the caste into a talent showcase for military bands, which are always spectacular.
What’s more, there is also the Edinburgh International Festival, which is the best place to be if you are a ballet, opera, or theater enthusiast, as there are over 300 shows held every year during a couple of weeks in August.
Add to these the Art Festival and its gorgeous exhibitions, the International Book Festival, and the International Film Festival for independent film creators, and you get yourself a true cultural month.
This is just one of the notable events that happen in August, not to mention the amazing summer weather and lots of historical and tourist activities you can do here that are bound to keep you busy!
September: Mallorca, Spain
Since we have already breached European territory, we cannot take away from this gorgeous island in Spain. With most children having already started school, this is the best month for you to go to this amazing destination in the Mediterranean Sea.
The island is known for its amazing resorts, limestone mountains, amazing historical sites, and sheltered beaches and coves! You can spend a relaxing vacation here between relaxing on their gorgeous beaches and in their world-renowned resorts, while also visiting the island and getting to take in the rich history and culture.
The island is one of the biggest in the region, but it is not huge, so you can easily travel around to all your destinations. You should give it a try, as you can satisfy all types of travelers here, from those who are keen on cultural visits to those who love a relaxing day on silky sand!
And believe us, you cannot miss a visit to the Drach Caves!
October: Vienna, Austria
Speaking of cultural spots, you can combine your trip and head to Vienna afterward. The first Saturday of October is known to be the Long Night of Museums, where one ticket will let you visit over 100 cultural spots (not only museums), which will stay open until 1 a.m., which is far from the normal local closing time of 5 p.m.
What’s more, October is a great month to visit Austria, as you can enjoy the fall weather without the cutting cold that comes by in late fall and the winter months.
October is definitely a month for those of us who love a good museum and exhibition, with the Fair for Art Vienna being hosted this month for modern art and the change of headlining exhibition at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien on the 8th (this year they are exhibiting 60 originals by Rembrandt).
If you love the natural world, the palm house in the Burggarted Patk will also hold a horticultural fair, where you will be able to see a lot of craftsmen who will sell all types of conserves, bulbs, and soaps!
And, less wholesome and cultural yet nonetheless a lot of fun, this is the month for the famous Oktoberfest! If you want to experience a true one, make sure you do not miss the Vienna one, Kaiser Wiesn, which runs from September 26th up until the 13th of October!
If you have been curious about Oktoberfest and you are planning on visiting, then make sure you know all there is to know about the festival! I have found this book to be really good and affordable!
November: Malta
Have you always been a fan of the movie Gladiator? Know that you are in luck, as on November 22nd, Ridley Scott is coming out with the long-awaited sequel, Gladiator 2! Why is this relevant to our destination for November? Malta is the place where this movie has been filmed, and it is an amazing place to visit in advance to see the movie.
Even if you are not a fan of this movie franchise, you will easily see why Malta is a great place to visit in November. While most of the country will already be settling in for the late fall and winter weather, Malta is still around 68°F, which makes it perfect to visit.
The capital, Valetta, is home to a gorgeous 16th-century gort, palazzos, and churches that make for an amazing time to visit, and all around the island, you can visit fishing villages, some of which have been preserved as they have always been.
The hotels are gorgeously renovated buildings, the food scene is insane, and you can make the most of the clear blue waters and sandy beaches!
December: São Paulo, Brazil
Back to our continent, we do recommend that you give old São Paulo a visit during the holiday weeks. It may sound weird, as you would probably expect the event in his city to be full come the holidays, but the reality is that a lot of people will flock to the coast.
The weather is quite hot, so prepare for an average of 80°F and prepare to celebrate Christmas in a new way. You do not have to come by during the actual holidays, but you can rest assured that the city will not be full of tourists during this time of year, so you can make the most of it.
The Museum of Art is definitely one to keep an eye out for, and you can count on the brutalist architecture and street art to make it feel like you are always inside an art piece.
The city has a lot of amazing places to stay in, and you will have a lot to visit in terms of museums and cultural spaces, but also a lot of fun places, so do not sleep in this Brazilian city if you are looking for a December destination!
If you are looking for a quiet, mainland vacation but do not know where to head, we have your back. Check out some of the best Florida beaches you should visit and skip out on all the crowds!
