10. Hotel Unique, Sao Paulo, Brazil

Nicknamed the “Watermelon” for its striking crescent state, this unique place tries, and mostly succeeds, to offer a combination of luxury and quirk. The 95-room hotel looks like the hull of a ship, with porthole windows that are a delightfully evocative touch.

Inside, the décor is modern and stylish (dark elevators, high ceilings) with some eccentric elements, such as the big, blue, circular cushion that completes the sitting area in the lobby. You might think at first that’s something exclusively decorative, but surprise! You can also sit on it!
