If you’re like this, let me tell you something: travel doesn’t have to be expensive. You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to get yourself (and your family) a nice getaway, even if it’s short!
Traveling to numerous destinations has become extremely affordable (or at least less expensive) for Americans due to the strength of the US dollar. We Americans are benefiting from the greatest exchange rates in years, even if it’s bad for other people.
With a huge plethora of options available, after a lot of research, these are the best U.S. vacation spots. Now, pack your bags, and don’t worry about pinching pennies!
Knoxville, Tennessee
This is definitely an overlooked destination when visiting Tennessee but it is truly one of the U.S. vacation spots super affordable to give it a try. Even though it’s not as big as Memphis or Nashville, this city is nonetheless worth spending a few days visiting.
Better still, because activities and accommodation are so much less expensive, it’s among the most affordable cities in the USA to visit. When you are there, don’t forget to visit the Tennessee Theatre, catch a performance, and get a drink at the Peter Kern Library Speakeasy.
The Finger Lakes, New York
Surprised to see the Finger Lakes on the list knowing that New York isn’t exactly one of the U.S. vacation spots that are affordable for frugal people? Well, don’t be! And I will tell you why. There are eleven stunning, clean lakes in this region that you won’t want to leave.
Take a boat ride and cast a line, or simply take in the breathtaking scenery all around you. I think you should go exploring by bike or on a hike. To witness the magnificent 215-foot Taughannock Falls, I advise going to Taughannock Falls State Park.
With over a dozen breathtaking waterfalls, Watkins Glen State Park, also situated in the Finger Lakes area, is regarded as one of the top state parks in the country. I don’t know about you, but I definitely know what I am going to do this summer.
Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri
If you want affordable travel, then you should add the Lake of the Ozarks to your list. This place, which is in central Missouri, offers once-in-a-lifetime adventures. If spending all of your time on the water is your thing, this location has great boating and fishing possibilities. If you just want a low-key holiday, play golf, take a stroll or a bike ride, or just unwind on the beach.
More affordable accommodations include campsites and RV parks, holiday rentals, cabins, and quaint bed and breakfasts, however, you may also stay at one of the nearby resorts. For your future trips, any of them would be an ideal base camp.
Atlanta, Georgia
The first destination that comes to mind when it comes to affordable travel is for sure Atlanta. There are a ton of international and domestic planes that arrive in the city, so you will be able to score some good prices for tickets. Therefore, compared to other regional city airports, seat rates may be less. All of this implies that you will have more cash to spend “on the ground” in Atlanta.
Going on a beautiful trek in the Appalachians or visiting Stone Mountain Park might help you avoid spending a lot of money on trips. However, you should probably skip this if you’re not much of a hiker.
Even better, the city offers a ton of fantastic free or inexpensive activities, such as the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, and the Fernbank Science Center. I promise you won’t get bored here, no matter what you decide!

One of my favorite U.S. vacation spots is Nags Head in North Carolina. If you love soaking up the sun and relaxing with a good drink in your hand, then you’re in my team and you’re going to love this destination. Of course, that is if you haven’t been here before.
This town has a wide variety of places to stay, excellent food choices, and a ton of interesting attractions—everything you need for an enjoyable and reasonably-priced holiday. My personal recommendation if you plan on visiting Nags Head soon is to spend at least two days at Jockey’s Ridge State Park.
Here you will find a ton of stuff to do, and no family member, no matter their age, will ever get bored. Whether you’re up for flying a kite or enjoying a meal in nature, there are a lot of attractions in this area of North Carolina.
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Are you thinking about going to Miami this summer? I suggest you re-think this option and try planning your trip to Miami’s neighbor, Fort Lauderdale. When you get here, be sure to check out Bonnet House, stroll down Las Olas Boulevard, and stuff yourself silly at Louie Bossi. Don’t forget to visit Hollywood, Florida, which is only a short drive away.
Cannon Beach, Oregon
I am on a roll with sandy destinations but honestly, it was impossible to pick just one of these U.S. vacation spots! Cannon Beach located in Oregon has everything you need to have a beautiful getaway from your day-to-day life.
I’ve been to this quaint little village several times, and every time I go, my love grows. It would be easy to spend many days just taking in the scenery and the area’s natural splendor. Saunter down the shoreline and enjoy every glimpse of Haystack Rock.
Additionally, you should not overlook Ecola State Park. Hike to a viewpoint of the famous Tillamook Rock Lighthouse from here. You may also visit Indian Beach, where you can see some daring surfers. Some of the greatest whale viewing in Oregon can be found at this state park.
It’s also advisable that you take some time to stroll through the town and browse its charming little stores. There are many different kinds of unusual shops, some of them are very memorable confectionery stores.
Bar Harbor, Maine
The last but not least of the U.S. vacation spots is Bar Harbor. Not only is this one of the greatest places to escape to in America, but it’s also among the most affordable destinations to go on a vacation.
You may explore the nearby Acadia National Park and take in the breathtaking sunrises, or you can spend your days strolling about this sleepy town and appreciating its beauty. If you and your family are looking for a chill and relaxing vacation, Bar Harbor is the place to be.
Whether you opt for a shopping spree or a nice and adventurous hiking trail, there is nothing bad about this place. Even a cozy breakfast in bed can be everything you need!
