8. Chimney Rock National Historic Site
Located in Nebraska, the Chimney Rock National Historic Site is, just like the other locations, is a one of a kind type of place surrounded by nature. The Chimney Rock itself is a geological rock formation rising nearly 300 feet high.
Hikers will be delighted to learn that there’s a trail along the north side of the rock. The site itself was designed in the late ’50s and it’s operated by History Nebraska. In the beginning, the rock was bigger but due to erosion, lightning, and other factors, it was reduced.
Fun fact: There was even a small town once named Chimney Rock that was placed near the base of the rock formation.

Thank you for the beautiful photos, they’re exquisite. You should also include Rocky Mountain Park, Estes, Colorado. I’ve only been once, makes you feel like you’ve entered another world, it was beautiful and if you go to the top of the trail, you’ll see snow capped mountains in the middle of summer.
Beautiful pictures — some of these places I have visited. Seeing the wonderful pictures was almost worth the aggravation of all the commercials!
Well, Yellowstone National Park is my ALL TIME favorite destination in the USA.–even before I saw this article. However, I do think TETON NATIONAL PARK and the “Going to the Sun” highway is pretty spectacular.
