6 Once-in-a-Lifetime Trips Perfect for Once You Retire

Written by

Did someone say once-in-a-lifetime trips for retirement? Count me in!

Oh, darlings, I hope you’re ready for this article because I am definitely beyond eager to show some once-in-a-lifetime trips that you should consider some time in the future. Especially if you are soon to enter your retirement years. No more 9-to-5 jobs, no more stress; kids flew from the nest, which means FREEDOM and is for you to enjoy it to the fullest.

I bet you’re thinking about money, and you could never afford any of these destinations, but wait up! I am sure you can do something for yourself now, after a life when you were always thinking about others. It’s time to book that trip, make those memories, and return home with a heart full of joy.

(Oh! Spoiler alert: Iceland, The Galapagos Islands, and Antarctica are just three of the best once-in-a-lifetime trips on the list) Now, let’s start:

1. Egypt and the Pyramids of Gizeh

Oh, Egypt! It’s on my list to visit too, but after reading so many things about it, I am certainly convinced that it’s worth a visit. I added Egypt and the Pyramids of Gizes to the list of once-in-a-lifetime trips because of how impressive they are. Built as tombs for the Egyptian pharaohs, pyramids are still standing after centuries.

There are so many things to see in Egypt that you won’t be bored for a minute. The Gizeh Pyramids are a short drive from Cairo and are often enjoyable to tour with a guide. You will be allowed to select the language, and they will go over every aspect with you.

Are you also curious about how it feels to ride a camel? You can do it too! The prices may differ, but if your bargaining skills are good, you can get a discount that suits your budget.

2. Northern Lights in Iceland

Among some of the best once-in-a-lifetime trips is, of course, the beautiful Iceland. Known for its breathtaking scenery, Iceland has so much to offer its tourists that you might want to plan a trip that lasts at least six days to take in the surroundings completely. Scuba diving, stargazing, and snapping photos of the northern lights are just a few of the top activities available here.

Do you want to combine both a cityscape and a countryside exploration? Just put your finger anywhere on Iceland’s map and pick a random destination, because all of them are brilliant. You don’t take my word for it? Then you must see it for yourself.

Reykjavik, for instance, is such a lovely capital city with such polite and kind locals that you would want to visit them sometime. Plan your visit between September and April for the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights.

3. Pompeii ruins in Italy

Have you ever been to Italy? What do you say about a trip to see the Pompeii ruins? This massive archeological site is the best way to glimpse the daily lives of ancient Romans. For those who don’t know what makes this destination so special, I am going to tell you.

Pompeii was covered in volcanic ash in AD 79 when a pyroclastic cloud from Mount Vesuvius flooded the Roman city. Pompeii was a prosperous community, which is fortunate for historians. In addition to forums, baths, and centrally heated houses, the in situ picture of opulent Roman life also features sensual murals and clever graffiti.

Restored to their former state, the cobblestone lanes around the Temple of Apollo and Stabian Baths provide a surreal trip back in time to ancient times.

4. The intense blue of Greece

Oh, Greece! Probably one of the best countries in Europe, it has a ton of stuff to offer, from crystal-clear waters to marvelous beaches. Greece is one of the countries you must visit at least once in your lifetime. Similar to Egypt, those who love history have a particular place in their hearts for Greece.

Of course, Athens is a must-see for its amazing ruins both within and outside the city, as well as its easygoing, international vibe. However, even modern coastal resorts have historical connections.

For example, if you plan on visiting Greece and want to see what their beaches have to offer, go to Mykonos. Near it is the beautiful city of Delos, full of history and old statues that you won’t know which to take pictures of first.

5.  Sakura season in Japan

Why did I want to add Japan to the list of once-in-a-lifetime trips? For various reasons but mainly for the sakura season. Traveling to Japan is an astonishing experience in and of itself; there are so many wonderful things to discover there, from the delectable cuisine to the kind locals.

Nonetheless, during the Sakura or cherry blossom seasons, there seems to be a certain magic in the air. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will never forget, and being in Japan during this time is a lovely feeling.

From mid-March to early May, the entire nation is covered in these exquisite pink and white blooms; the cherry blossoms bloom earliest in the south, with the Tokyo Metropolitan region seeing their peak bloom from March 21 to April 7.

Just be mindful because severe winds have the potential to remove all of the leaves and bring an early end to the season. So if you are planning on visiting Japan during spring an early booking won’t be a bad idea.

6. The frozen empire of Antarctica

If you are looking for some once-in-a-lifetime trips in isolated locations away from crowded cities, Antarctica can be a good choice. The continent of Antarctica is nearly entirely covered with ice. The glaciers, icebergs, snow, and additional attractions make for breathtaking and distinctive panoramas. A vast variety of creatures, including birds, seals, whales, and penguins, call it home as well.

Given that Antarctica is the coldest, windiest, and driest area on Earth, it is amazing that these creatures live there. Just remember to take more than just two sweaters with you! It’s going to be quite cold.

Takeaway:

These are only a few of the once-in-a-lifetime travels you should consider; others will depend on your interests. However, the places included here are breathtaking, exceptional, and memorable, and they are worth visiting at least once if you have the opportunity.

One of these locations should be on your list of options, regardless of your preference for adventure or just seeing new sights and flavors. Even if they might appear far away and costly, there’s always a way to travel the world for a far lower price.
